On October 15th, Think Smartgrids and the Franco-German Office for Energy Transition (OFATE) organized a webinar on smart metering, comparing the strategies adopted by France and Germany, with feedback on the two deployment programs.
Martial Monfort from Enedis’ Linky program and Andreas Resch from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) explained the different choices made by the two countries.
In Germany, the focus was on large consumers and data protection, while in France, Enedis set customer services and the contribution to the energy transition as priorities.
As Valerie Anne Lencznar, CEO of Think Smartgrids, pointed out in her introduction, smart meters are at the crossroads of many challenges in the energy transition: self-consumption and the development of renewable energies, new electrical uses, particularly linked to the electric vehicle, and the emergence of consumers who want to better control their consumption and be offered new services, and finally, essential services for network operators, such as the possibility of remote operations and real-time supervision.
