Finistère: France's first department-wide “smart territory”

Published 10 Mars 2020

While smart city projects (Dijon, Nantes, Lyon, etc.) are developing more and more in France, the Finistère department is becoming the first to propose a territorial project connected to its peri-urban and rural communities, with the exception of Brest and its outskirts.

The project, led by the Syndicat Départemental d’Energie et d’Equipement du Finistère (SDEF), is supported by Eiffage Energie Systèmes, Quant, Dolmen and Sensing vision.
This project will result in better management and optimisation of local authority public services such as public lighting, buildings and waste collection.
A low-speed “LoRa” network will enable the collection of data throughout the territory, which will be accessible via “a transversal platform for flow aggregation and processing”.
Thanks to the tools that the territory will have at its disposal in order to complete the project, control of its energy bill will be ensured and citizen participation will be encouraged.
